“The skills & confidence that I acquired from Andy have given others confidence in me.”

For the last 30 years, Andy O’Shaughnessy has been a permanent fixture in the Big Brothers Big Sisters community. His involvement with the organization began when he was matched with his first Little Brother, Brad, in Indianapolis.

A medical student at the time, Andy assumed a hectic work schedule and studying took priority in his life; however, he always managed to find a few hours a week to spend with Brad. Thanks to Andy’s caring and consistent presence, Brad began to smile more, laugh more and seem more content.

Following Andy’s lead, he took up interests in electronics, computers and amateur radio. Today, Brad is the happy tech-guru he was always meant to be; he graduated from Culver Stockton College and is currently the telephone operator & dispatcher for the Harry S. Truman Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

While his Community-Based match with Little Brother Brad has long since ended, Andy’s involvement with the organization has increased in recent years. Now a resident of Fort Wayne, Andy has served as a member of the Board of Directors and was the ex-officio Board President for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana. He and his wife, Kathy, have also continued volunteering as a Big Couple to multiple Littles and were recently matched with a new Little Brother, Jobe, in March 2016.
